60th Anniversary of Department of Textile Engineering

Origin of the Department of Organic and Polymeric Materials started as one of the first departments in Tokyo Vocational School in 1881. Thus, our history spans more than 130 years. After the changes of the name of our department several times, it became the "Department of Textile engineering" in 1955. Many students graduated from our department belonged to textile companies, and contributed to the development of Japanese textile industries from Meiji period to postwar period. More recently, the area of research and education in our department expanded to not only textiles but also various materials for polymer composites, electronics, nanotechnologies etc. Accordingly, it was decided to rename the department to the "Department of Organic and Polymeric Materials" in 1971. The year of 2015 is 60 years anniversary of the "Department of Textile Engineering". As the textile is the origin of ours, we have decided to organize a commemorative international symposium. People selected from alumni and past research fellows of the department will present recent topics as invited speakers. Please join us, and meet together with old friends.
